West Indies cricket

The recently drawn test against the Australians in Antigua. Reflects the state of West Indies cricket. We have shown our inability to adapt to changing conditions that we should be familiar with. Let me explain we are playing at home so familiarity with regional conditions should be a plus. The selectors seem not to bother about pitch conditions when selecting the final team. Amit Jaggernauth should not have been selected for the Jamaica test. The pitch in Jamaica is traditionally a fast one . He would have made a better impression on the dead flat Antigua pitch. That's now water under the bridge.

With the exception of Shiv "Tiger"Chanderpaul all the other members of the team are just onlookers. Their attitude towards the game is a reflection of today's Caribbean society. I have said it on many occasion's that the West Indies Test side is a mirror of our society. For example our society lacks discipline, we see the lack of discipline when our boys go out to bat, the same mistakes are made over and over again. Ronnie Sarwan decided that he had to be disciplined while batting and his good form together with good discipline showed that if we apply ourselves we can make a good showing.

Denesh Ramdeen and Dwayne Bravo owe us a lot of runs. Its time that they realise that they have to get serious. The members of the West Indies test team all possess great cricketing talent and if the management and coach can get the players to understand that they have to be very disciplined in their approach to the game. If that can be done the we will have a world championship team.

As a West Indian I await the day when the West Indies team rise and take their
place at the top of world cricket. Good luck to the team in the third test in Barbados.
